By Richard Barker · · 2 min read

In this article, we will be discussing what is meant by the words “chupapi munyanyo” that you may have overheard on social media before going to discuss its origins and how it took off and became a thing. Then, we’ll wrap up with a discussion on how the words get used today.

Let’s go.

What is the meaning of the phrase “chupapi munyanyo”?

The words “chupapi munyanyo” are in fact nonsense words. The first word sounds as though they may be derived from combining two words in the Spanish language, since “chu” is considered a term of endearment, especially among friends or family. Then there’s “papi” which is a Spanish word that generally means “daddy” or “father”. In some cultures, especially in the Caribbean, “papi” is used as a term of endearment for any man, whether it’s a friend, family member, or even a romantic partner, much like calling someone “man” or “dude”.

However, the “munyanyo” part of the saying is 100% a nonsense word, and there have been different spellings of this word used online, with various spellings being amalgamated by the originator as “muñañyo”.

Due to single entry in the online Urban Dictionary, some people began to believe that “chupapi muñañyo” translates to “suck my d**k, papa” however, this has not been confirmed.

What is the origin of the phrase “chupapi munyanyo”?

The phrase comes from the content creator known as @Jaykindafunny. His skits didn’t take off right away when he was posting on Instagram, but when he moved to Tiktok, that’s when it really took off. This began around 2020.

The skit involves the content creator sneaking up on strangers and saying to them: “chupapi muñañyo”. Sometimes whispering the words, and sometimes screaming them. This usually results in the stranger being confused and wondering who this person is and what they want.

Before taking his “chupapi muñañyo” skit to TikTok, @Jaykindafunny had about 30,000 followers, but this trend of skits led to some serious growth. His most famous video using the iconic phrase has got nearly 14 million likes.

How do people use the phrase “chupapi munyanyo”?

Many people have made their own, similar skits, using the nonsense words “chupapi muñañyo” but none of these have seen the same popularity as the original content creator @Jaykindafunny, who is now known by many as the skit’s namesake, “chupapi muñañyo”.

Incidentally, as a result of the popularity of @Jaykindafunny’s “chupapi muñañyo” skits, audio recordings have been isolated from the Tiktok videos and have been made into several songs on the platform Spotify, that anyone can listen to.

Final word

So, to summarise, the words “chupapi munyanyo” are nonsense words that don’t really mean anything in any language. They just seemed to have garnered popularity when they went viral on Tiktok, and consequently became a part of a larger social media trend.
